In February, 2012 the Port of Liepaja handled 570 321.29 tons of various cargoes which is an increase by 52.7%, as compared to the cargo throughput in February, 2011. For the most part, it is due to the growth of transshipped volumes of cereals (322.1 thousand tons). Compared to the February of last year (132.7 thousand tons), the volumes of dry bulk cargo transshipment via the Port of Liepaja have increased by 142.73%, whereas, as compared to January, this year (216.9 thousand tons) – by 48.5%. Successful operation of the Ro – Ro ferry line from Liepaja to Travemünde (Germany) – currently calling four times a week - also accounts for a significant input to the overall growth of cargo volumes.
In January, 2012 the Port of Liepaja handled 458 114.37 tons of cargoes which is an increase by 18.6% as compared to the cargo throughput in January, 2011. Altogether 137 vessels called the Port of Liepaja in January this year, whereas the number of passengers amounts to 2059. Such an increase of cargo throughput hass been reached due to the growth of cereals and scrap metal sales, as well as, as a result of a succesful operation of the Ro – Ro ferry line.
