Liepaja Port has started the year with 8.6% increase in cargo turnover

In January 2016, companies in the Port of Liepaja handled 477 819.93 tons of cargo, increasing the total cargo turnover by 8.6%, if compared to January 2015 and by 2.2% then average per month in 2015. In January, the number of vessels served - 111, and the number of passengers – 2328.

Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority ends lease agreement of Berth No. 50

By the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Board decision, dated 15th November 2015, the lease agreement of the berth No 50 with the company SIA “50. piestātne” has been terminated due to outstanding debts.

In the Port of Liepaja was filmed a music video

Musician Ivo Fomins and producer Ritvars Bluka recognised the industrial environment of Liepaja Port as the most suitable place to film a video for song “Nāc” (“Come)”, written by Ivo Fomins and Guntars Racs. Video filming took place last night, January 26, and final version of the video will be out soon.

In 2015, the Port of Liepaja worked with increase in cargo turnover

In 2015, stevedores in the Port of Liepaja handled 5.6 mil. tons, increasing port`s turnover by 5.9%, if compared to year 2014. It is the 2nd highest cargo turnover result per year, since the port renewed its activities in 1991. GUNTARS KRIEVINS, General Manager of Liepaja Special Economic Zone, points out that the Port of Liepaja can work successfully also during the complicated geopolitical and economic circumstances, by attracting new cargos, using innovative solutions and by close cooperation between companies in the port and Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority. In 2015, the Port of Liepaja implemented development projects and reached a certain level of higher quality.

In 2015, Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority worked succesfully, by completing implementation of two significant EU Cohesion Fund projects, worth EUR 54 443 632.33 and by achieving 2nd best cargo turnover per year since 1991.

In 2015, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority completed implementation of two significant projects, funded by the EU Cohesion Fund - „Dredging of the Port of Liepaja” and „Clean – up of the Historically Polluted Site at the Liepaja Port Karosta Canal, 1st Phase”. The total eligible costs of both projects amount to EUR 54 443 632.33, including EUR 41 749 576 by the European Union Cohesion Fund (CF), and EUR 14 110 130.27 co-financed by the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority.

In November, cargo turnover in the port of Liepaja – 467 904.25 tons

In November (2015), cargo turnover in the port of Liepaja was mainly influenced by weather conditions – strong winds and rain. As a result, companies in the port handled 467 904.25 tons, which is more than average this year per month, but less than in October (2015) and November (2014). Ivo Kolins, Head of the Marketing and Investment Department, Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority, points out that agricultural dry bulk cargos are dominating in the Liepaja port. This type of cargo has strictly seasonal character, reaching its highest point in the last few months of the year, unfortunately weather conditions are making corrections. In November, the number of vessels served - 105, and the number of passengers – 2291.

Liepaja SEZ Authority participated in the exhibition “Transport week” in Moscow

Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority participated in international forum and exhibition – “Transport week” – organised by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. Exhibition was held in Moscow from December 3 to December 5. International forum has been recognized in Russian business environment as one of the main industry events, which traditionally takes place in the end of the year. During this event, results of the year are summarized and new targets for the future are set.
